DANCE INNOVATIONS DANCE AND PERFORMING ARTS SCHEDULE

Fall Schedule-Friday September, 11, 2009- Thursday, February 4, 2010

Spring Schedule Friday February 5, 2010- Thursday June 24, 2010

Dance Innovations will be closed on:
• April 2-3, 2010 (Easter break)-Classes resume on April 5, 2010
• May 31, 2010(memorial day) – Classes resume on June 1, 2010
• Snow??? If there is inclement weather – Dance Innovations follows the Chatham School system.

Recital Information
• Our Recital date and location: June 18 & 19, 2010 at Morristown High School
• Twenty minutes proximity to Chatham
• Ticket request forms will be handed out mid- April. More information to come…
• Multiple shows of different ages and variety of dance styles to showcase students’ individual skills and accomplishments. Each technique class will appear in one show only. Show times to be posted at a later date.

Class Descriptions

 

Classical Ballet
Traditional and classical ballet techniques are taught with an emphasis on barre work, port de bras, and progression across the floor. Basic ballet positions with proper alignment are mastered. Stresses academic technique, precise movements, flexibility, and extensions.

 Classical Repetoire  Dancers learn exceprts from a variety of classical Ballet Repertory

Pointe
Dancing on the tips of the toes requiring special shoes allowing the dancer to balance her bodyweight on a tiny flat surface. This technique class can only be taken by those who exhibit strength and mobility in the ankle and the foot. Students are required to take 2 Ballet technique classes per week. Students will go up on Pointe at the Ballet Faculty discretion.

 

Contemporary Ballet /Modern
Using a combination of Classical Ballet and Modern technique, this class which is designed for the intermediate/advanced student will employ a 30 min warm-up: floor work, barre, center; with the balance of the class devoted to development of advanced turns, jumps and combinations from the American Modern Dance syllabus.

 New Class- Fit for Kids Develop a healthy lifestyle through dance, fitness, nutrition and fun

Lyrical Dance/Contemporary Ballet
The lyrics of the song are the driving force for the inspiration of the movement allowing the dancers to express life's experiences and challenges in an emotionally intense or delicate way. It has no particualr defined history but incorporates all styles of dance including ballet, modern and jazz.

 

Jazz Traditional/ Broadway
Development of Jazz Technique with the emphasis on coordination, strength, control, and dynamics taught through challenging combinations, which will include turns, leaps, and progressions.

 

Hip Hop
An athletic combination of fast footwork, free style dance, salsa, and martial arts moves, done to pulsating street style music. This class combines the high energy of Hip-Hop with traditional Jazz technique.

 

Modern
A combination of various styles of modern technique including, Graham Movement that is based on contracting and releasing of the muscles. Horton Will encompass “Horton Fortifications” and style that creates an emphasis on the basic structure of technical modern with the use of angular movements and body awareness. Limon Incorporates dropping and releasing from your center, while using the Foundation of Ballet.

 

Showstoppers/ Musical Theatre
For the novice or the experienced student. These classes promise entertaining numbers where both singing and dancing talents are brought together. Dances in the past have included songs from Broadway’s most popular shows.

 

Tap
Tap features the use of both feet as a musical instrument creating syncopated rhythms.  Tap is widely popular in Vaudeville and muscial theatre.  Tap is also linked to Jazz dance with influences from Spansih Flamenco, many African dances and Clog dance.

 

NEW CLASS - Storybook Dance
Brings your favorite storybook and their characters to life through creative movement, Ballet, Jazz, and Acrobatics.

 

FOR THE YOUNG STUDENT - Wiggle Worms
A non-recital class (parents observation will be scheduled to view progress) for the active toddler- through musical instruments, finger play and games- this class will help instill the love of learning and listening.
